Department of Biochemistry & Chemistry Department's History The Department of Biochemistry offers programmes at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. The undergraduate programme was started in the year 1994 and the postgraduate programme in 1997.The syllabus covers a wide range of subjects in the field of Biochemistry and is multidisciplinary in nature incorporating the branches of Microbiology and Biotechnology to enable the students to cope up with the recent developments in the field of Biological Sciences. Similarly practicals are also scheduled as with the recent developments in the field of Biochemistry. As a part of the curriculum, final year postgraduate students undergo Project work which helps them to get exposed to the recent developments in research.   The department produces consistent good results in both Undergraduate and postgraduate programme with all the out gone students having secured their degrees. The department has a team of dedicated and experienced faculty which is a highlight. Our alumni are well placed in reputed companies while some are pursuing research and few are employed in diagnostic centres. Students are encouraged to participate and present papers in Seminars and conferences. Department Activities The department has an association “Association of Biochemists” under the auspices of which the hidden talents of the students are brought out. This platform provides an opportunity for the students to discuss about the developments in the field of biochemistry. The department in association with other Biosciences departments has organized three programmes on Biodiversity during the months of December 2007 and January 2008. Interschool essay competition on the Loss of Biodiversity – a warning signal to the Society on 27.12.2007 . Human rally on Loss of Biodiversity on 30.01.08 An intercollegiate Oratorical/Essay/Poster presentations on various aspects of Biodiversity on 31.01.2008. International Conference on recent advances in Biosciences 12-13 February 2004. The department has formed Medicinal Garden in the College campus. Chemistry The Department of Chemistry offers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. The Department was stared in the year 2005 and Organic Chemistry in the year 2006. In addition, postgraduate programme in Organic Chemistry is offered. This programme has a lot of scope in Pharmaceutical companies and is in good demand in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Syllabus is application based and provides a wide coverage of various fields in chemistry. Employment opportunities are plenty for both Organic and General chemistry students.
