Department's History

Established in 1994, PGP college of Arts and Science houses the School of Hotel Management & Catering Science and is affiliated to Periyar University.

5 Star hotels Le Royal Meridien, Chennai and Le Meridien, Coimbatore belong to PGP Group. Our students are trained in these hotels and are also placed there. Our students are employed all over the world.

Department Activities
Value Added Courses in Tourism, Flower Arrangement, Carving, Bar flare, Cake Decoration are conducted.
Cooking lessons using various ingredients to local women through SHG(Self Health Group) in this area are organised.
Workshops & Seminars.
Students are encouraged to participate in various competitions.
Employability of the students is enhanced.

B.Sc.,Hotel Management and Catering Science(3-Years)
A Comprehensive Hotel Management Programme which gives the student the opportunity to learn all aspects of the industry and the choice to specialize in any particular stream of his/her interest, which includes Food Production, Bakery & Confectionery, Food & Beverage service, Front Office and House Keeping.
PART TIME / FULL TIME CERTIFICATE COURSE
(offered in association with Le ROYAL MERIDIEN,Chennai)
   Food production & Culinary skills.
   Baking Techniques.
   Housekeeping Management.
   Foodservice Management.
   Front office Management.
   Hospitality and Events Management.
   Duration of the course: 1 Year.
   Eligibility: 10th pass.
   No age limit for admission.
Department Events
DEPARTMENT EVENTS The Department has conducted Food Festival “CHICO FEST-2006” in the campus through which the talents and skills of the students were exposed. Thereafter regular FOOD FESTIVALS are conducted.
Students are trained to take part in out door catering service regularly in reputed hotels and restaurants.
Our students with the support of the faculty member offer catering services at all function.
The Department has conducted “Cookery Competition” in the campus through which the talents and skills of the Faculty & students were exposed.
